Hace unos días se supo que el consejo técnico de Ubuntu había admitido a dos nuevos miembros de la familia de distros derivadas oficiales, Ubuntu GNOME y UbuntuKylin. Esta última ofrece soporte para el idioma chino, pero además está centrada totalmente en los usuarios del gigante asiático en cuanto a servicios web o a la personalización de apartados como el calendario chino o la suite ofimática WPS Office, una de las aplicaciones más conocidas en entornos ofimáticos en aquel país.
Pues bien, parece que esta segunda aceptación era tan solo una pista de lo que Canonical tenía en mente. Sus responsables han anunciado un acuerdo de colaboración con el gobierno chino según el cual Ubuntu se convertirá en la arquitectura de referencia para una distribución Linux que proporcionará «un sistema operativo estandarizado, abierto, ampliamente usado y flexible«.
Jane Silber, CEO de Canonical, lo dejó claro en ese anuncio oficial:
Esta colaboración ofrecerá inversiones locales y participación para asegurar que la plataforma es relevante para el mercado chino, y la íntima coordinación con el proyecto Ubuntu global asegurará que esa solución será familiar a vendedores de hardware y software, y útil para productos exportados por empresas chinas también.
La primera distribución que aparecerá bajo este acuerdo será la citada Ubuntu Kylin, que tendrá nueva versión en abril de 2013 coincidiendo con el lanzamiento tanto de Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail como del resto de sus derivadas oficiales.
